You can picture the round part on your face that takes in the world — the organ that looks, watches, and judges. Almost everything 'eye' does grows from this one picture: first the literal looking, then the act of watching over and guarding, then 'eye' as your taste and judgement, and finally small round eye-shaped holes in other objects.
