You can picture someone who has clearly seen the message and then puts the phone face down. The information got in; the person simply refuses to act on it. Ignoring only counts when you already know — that is what makes it different from missing something.

From Latin ignorare 'not to know, take no notice of': in- 'not' + Old Latin gnarus 'aware'. The old English sense was literally 'not know' (1610s); the modern 'pass over without notice' only appears around 1801 and was uncommon before about 1850.
來自拉丁文 ignorare「不知道、不加理會」：in-「不」＋ 古拉丁文 gnarus「知情的」。英文早期真的就是「不知道」（1610 年代），今天「明知卻不理」的用法要到 1801 年前後才出現，1850 年以前還很少見。所以這個字的動作，可以想成「表現得像不知道」——本人其實知道。
