A lookout is either a place with a good view where someone watches for danger, or the person doing that watching - like a lookout on a ship watching for other boats or storms. The common phrase 'be on the lookout for something' means to watch carefully because you expect it to appear - a shop might tell staff to be on the lookout for a certain type of theft, or a parent might be on the lookout for signs their child is tired.
