Picture one reed: a tall hollow stalk standing in shallow water, narrow enough to bend in the wind, and able to give out a high thin note when air passes through it. Every use of reedy can be held inside that single picture. Where those stalks crowd the water, the place is reedy. When a sound is as thin as the note they make, the sound is reedy. And when a body is as narrow as the stalk itself, the person is reedy.

From the word’s history

Our Wiktionary evidence records reedy from Middle English reedy, reedi, formed from reed plus the ending -y, which means covered with or like. So the word literally says full of reeds or reed-like, and both of those readings are still working today.
