    If someone is lanky, they are tall and thin, with long arms and long legs, and they often move in a slightly awkward way. Think of a teenage boy who has suddenly grown, whose sleeves are too short, who ducks under a door without quite meaning to. It is informal, everyday English. It can feel warm, or a little teasing — you hear it in the tone. Use it about people and bodies, not as a fancy word for “thin.” Skinny talks about having little fat. Lanky talks about that long, loose shape, as if the person is still growing into themselves.
