核心畫面

Picture the small amount of bile the liver makes: a bitter, yellow-green liquid whose job is to break up fat. Bilious can be thought of as the adjective that stands next to that liquid, and every meaning of the word takes one thing from it — the churned-up feeling, the yellow-green colour, or the bitter taste.

From the word’s history

Wiktionary gives French bilieux, from Latin biliosus meaning full of bile, formed from bilis (bile) plus -osus (full of). The core image is simply what that says: full of bile.

Wiktionary 記的是法文 bilieux,往前是拉丁文 bīliōsus(滿是膽汁的),由 bīlis(膽汁)加上 -ōsus(充滿)組成。核心畫面就是字面本身:滿是膽汁。
