lovely! (pleased answer) · adjective · A2
Said on its own as an answer, to show that you are pleased or that something is fine with you.
One way to picture lovely: warm approval — something is good and you are glad about it. It started with beauty, but in everyday British speech it has spread far past looks: a lovely afternoon, a lovely man, and on its own as a cheerful yes. It is a spoken, friendly word, so most of these uses belong to conversation rather than writing.
