Giving pleasure, enjoyment, or a quiet kind of satisfaction — you like looking at it, hearing it, or how it turns out. A pleasing colour, a pleasing result, a pleasing manner. It is a little more careful than “nice,” and cooler than “lovely”: it often sounds like a considered opinion, not a burst of feeling. People also use it as the -ing verb (“it is pleasing to see…”), which is rather formal. Pleasant is a close neighbour; pleasing more often means “this is doing the job of making you glad right now,” not just “this is a nice kind of thing.”
