You can picture pure as 'only this one thing, and nothing else mixed in'. A lump of pure gold has no cheaper metal hidden inside it; pure wool has no other thread woven through it. From that one clean picture — a single substance, nothing added — the whole word grows: take away every other thing, and what is left is pure.
