1. 1

Used of a plant or animal whose parents were two different breeds of the same kind — a farm dog mixed with a herding dog, two kinds of sheep, two kinds of rose. You can also use it about the act: if you crossbred them, you made those two breeds have young together, hoping the baby would take something from both. The result is a mix of types, not a brand-new wild animal. Farmers, , and people with pets use this word. Though actually, “hybrid” is a close word. Hybrid often stretches to cars, phones, and even two different species. Crossbred stays closer to farms and kennels: different breeds, usually still the same animal.
