Very hot and dry. Torrid weather, a torrid sun or a torrid afternoon is heat you can feel on your skin, the kind that dries the air out.

English torrid comes from Latin torridus, from the verb torreo, meaning to parch or scorch. The modern core, heat dry enough to bake, sits right on that root.
