From Latin dominari 'to rule, govern', from dominus 'lord, master of the house' (domus 'house'). The dominant one is literally the master the rest answer to.

源自拉丁文 dominari「統治、管轄」，再往前是 dominus「一家之主」（domus 房子）。所以 dominant 骨子裡就是「當家作主、別人得聽它的」那一個，正好接上現代『壓過其他』的核心畫面。
