Positively works off two sides of "positive". One is certainty: something is fixed, settled, beyond argument — you can identify it positively, and from there the word becomes a way of stressing that a surprising thing really is so. The other is the plus side: the good end of the good/bad line, and, in science, the plus end of an electric charge. A useful way to hold it: the word points at one end of a scale and says "this end, no doubt about it".
