in an honest way · r · B1
In a way that is honest, telling the truth and not hiding anything.
You can picture honestly as laying everything on the table with nothing hidden under it — speaking or acting with the truth fully shown. That plain core — 'doing it the truthful way, hiding nothing' — is where the word starts. When a speaker turns that openness onto their own words ('I'm telling you straight, no tricks'), honestly becomes a way of pressing 'this is really true'. Pushed harder it becomes a near-plea ('believe me, honestly!'), and finally, said alone with a sigh, it leaks out as the frustration of someone who has run out of patience.

in an honest way · r · B1

emphasizing truthfulness · r · B1
Used to show that what you are saying is really true, even if it sounds surprising.
expressing annoyance · r · B1
Said on its own to show that you feel annoyed or shocked by what someone said or did.
