    Completely, or in every part — used mostly before an adjective or another adverb, and also with some verbs, to say that something is true to the fullest degree, with nothing left out.

    「totally」的意思是「完全、整個都是」，它的工作是把後面那個字推到最滿：totally different 不是「有點不一樣」，而是「根本兩回事」；totally melted 是「一點都沒剩」。位置通常在形容詞或副詞前面（totally new、totally wrong），也可以放在動詞前後（I totally forgot／I agree totally）。它跟 total（總數、全部）是一家人，所以可以想成「整個算進去，沒有漏掉的部分」——這也是為什麼它常出現在口語裡表達很強的同意或很受不了。

Picture pushing a dial all the way to the top with no gap left behind — not most of the way, not nearly, but with nothing held back. Totally different means you cannot find one matching part; totally wrong means no piece of it survives. Its whole job is to push the word after it to full.
