If you think pessimistically, you look ahead and wait for a bad result. You might say the team will lose before the game even starts, or that a plan “probably won’t work.” It tells how someone thinks, talks, or plans — not what they are. In speech it is a long, slightly word; many people just say “I’m expecting the worst” or “I don’t think this will go well.” You will meet it more in writing, news, and school essays than in short messages between friends.
