Picture a door that stays shut. A friendly person leaves their door open — they smile, they talk, they help you in. Unfriendly is that same door closed: often nothing openly cruel happens, you simply are not let in and you feel you are not wanted. The same shut door can belong to a person, to a place, to a rule or a machine, or to a whole country.
