You can picture love as a strong warm pull toward someone or something — your heart leaning in, wanting them close, wanting them to be well. The same pull simply varies in heat and in what it points at: at its hottest and most intimate it is romance; turned toward family it is deep affection; turned toward a hobby or place it is delight; thinned out, it becomes the warm word you use to greet, sign off, or address someone kindly. Almost every use of 'love' is that one warm leaning-in, aimed somewhere new.
