clear and logical · adjective · C2
If a piece of writing, a set of ideas, or a plan is coherent, it is easy to understand because it is clear and the parts join in a reasonable way.
One way to picture it: the pieces hold on to each other — Latin cohaerēre, 'to together'. Because they hold, someone on the outside can follow the whole thing as one.
Latin cohaerēre = con- ('together') + haerēre ('to stick, cling'); coherent literally describes something whose parts are clinging together.
