Picture something leaving one point and arriving at another with nothing carrying it by hand — a signal off an aerial, a disease from one person to the next, light coming through glass. Transmit is that crossing of a gap: the thing sent stays the same, only its position changes. Whether the gap is filled by radio , by contact, or by the glass itself, the word holds.
