A telecast is a programme sent out on television — a broadcast, but specifically the television kind. A live telecast of the opening ceremony; the national telecast of a match.
It is also a verb: to telecast something is to send it out on television. 'The game will be telecast live on Saturday.' The past form is usually 'telecast' as well, unchanged, though you will see 'telecasted' from some writers; both are found, and 'telecast' is the safer choice.
The honest note about this word is that it sounds dated in Britain and mostly dated in America. It was coined in the 1930s and 40s when television was new and people wanted a television version of 'broadcast'. Then 'broadcast' simply swallowed television too, and native speakers today say 'it was broadcast live' or, far more often, 'it was on TV' and 'they showed it live'. In American sports journalism the noun still hangs on ('the Sunday telecast'), and it is genuinely alive and ordinary in Indian English, where newspapers use it constantly.
So: understand it when you read it, especially in older writing, sports reporting, and Indian news. Reach for 'broadcast', 'show', or 'air' when you are the one writing.
組成tele- ('far off', as in television) + -cast, taken off the end of 'broadcast'. The -cast piece originally meant 'throw' — to broadcast was to scatter seed widely by throwing it, and the word was borrowed for scattering a signal.
