You can think of it as life showing on the outside. A lively person doesn't just exist — you can see the life in them: they move, they talk, they join in, and the room notices. Everything else the word describes borrows that same visible energy, so a street, a tune, an argument, a colour or a flavour can all be lively when they feel awake rather than flat.
