fury, intense anger · noun · C2
A very strong feeling of anger that is often hard to control.
One way to picture it: anger that has grown so big it stops being something you hold and becomes a force that moves on its own — heat that the person feeling it.
Latin furia meant "rage" — the noun for the rage itself, not for the angry person. English kept exactly that: fury names the force, which is why weather and bursts of activity can also have it.
Middle English furie ← Old French furie ← Latin furia ("rage"); attested origin supplied with the payload

fury, intense anger · noun · C2
A very strong feeling of anger that is often hard to control.
fury, a burst of activity · noun · C2
A short time of very busy activity or of a very strong feeling.
fury, force of a storm · noun · C2
The strong, wild force of very bad weather, such as a storm, the wind, or the sea.
Fury, Greek mythology · noun · C2
In old Greek stories, one of three goddesses with snakes for hair who punished people for serious wrongs.
