Ferocity is the state of being extremely violent and severe. It is the noun: not the fierce person or storm, but the violence itself. An attack, a wild animal, or a storm can have ferocity. People also stretch it to talk that is not physical — the ferocity of an argument, of criticism, of competition — when the feeling is unusually sharp. It is a rather formal, written kind of word. In speech, many people would just say how fierce or how violent something was. The everyday partner is the adjective ferocious.

組成English borrowed this from French férocité, from Latin ferōcitās, from ferox (fierce, bold), from ferus (wild). It does not split into English pieces you can use on their own.
