From Medieval Latin extravagans, present participle of extravagor "to wander beyond", from Latin extra ("beyond") + vagor ("to wander").
來自中世紀拉丁文 extravagans，是 extravagor（走到界外遊蕩）的現在分詞，由 extra（超出、之外）加 vagor（遊蕩）組成。字面就是「晃到界線外面去」。這條字源把現代四個意思一次串起來：花錢越線是奢侈，用量越線是過度，話說得越過事實那條線是誇大，排場越過樸素那條線就成了華麗。同一個 vagor 也在 vague（模糊，原意是「四處飄的」）和 vagrant（流浪者）裡。
