You can picture pleased as the warm, settled feeling you get when something has turned out the way you hoped — a small inner nod of approval. It is quieter than and calmer than delighted: the thing happened, it was good, and you are content with it. Because the feeling is a reaction to something, pleased usually points outward — pleased about the result, pleased with the person who produced it.
