If someone is self-satisfied, they are too pleased with themselves and with what they have done. The word is not a compliment. A self-satisfied person may smile as if they have already won, talk as if no one else could have done it, or stop trying because they think they are finished. Though actually, people sometimes look self-satisfied without meaning to — a quiet proud face can be read as smug. In writing, though, self-satisfied almost always asks you to dislike the pride a little. It is close to smug, and it describes a person, a smile, a tone, or a look.
self-satisfied 指一個人對自己和自己做過的事太得意，覺得不需要再努力。這是帶貶意的字，不是稱讚，像笑得好像已經贏了，或說話像別人都做不到。不過有時人只是安靜地露出驕傲的表情，也可能被看成自大，所以寫作裡它幾乎總是帶著反感。它跟 smug 很接近，可以形容人、笑容、語氣或表情。
