insert into a slot · verb · B1
to carefully put something into a hole, slot, or space, especially one made for it.
Picture a card sliding into a slot that was made for it — a memory card into a camera, a key into a lock. There is a space waiting, the thing goes in, and once it is in it sits held by whatever surrounds it. Everything insert does, whether the thing going in is a rubber pad or a , seems to come back to that one move: a small piece placed into a space inside something bigger.
From Latin inserere, in- 'in' plus serere 'to join together, put in a row'; its past participle insertus gives the English verb, first recorded in the 1520s. The noun is much younger — 1893 — and its first use was for a paper placed among the pages of a newspaper or magazine.

loose ad sheet · noun · B2
A printed sheet, often an advertisement, put loose inside a newspaper or magazine.
