Think of modest as keeping a little of yourself covered. Some of it is what you say: you leave the prize out of the story and let people find it later. Some of it is what can be seen: the clothes cover more. Some of it is how you act in front of others: you stay inside what the room expects. Put im- in front and that covering comes off. Immodest is the picture of nothing held back — the good things about yourself said out loud, more of the body showing, or behaviour that goes past what the people watching expect. Which kind of covering came off depends on what the sentence is about: a speech, a dress, or an act.

Wiktionary analyses the word as im- + modest, with im- the Latin negative prefix in- assimilated before m. So the form is literally 'not modest', which is why all three senses are the same removal applied to different things.
