You can start from a single feather: very thin, very light, and laid flat against what is under it. A bird is covered in thousands of them, lying in a smooth layer with nothing sticking up. Most uses of feathered keep one part of that picture — either the layer of them lying over a surface, or the thinness of the one blade turned edge-on.

adjective · B2

Covered with feathers, or made out of feathers. It also joins onto another word to say what kind of feathers something has, as in blue-feathered or long-feathered.

adjective · C2

Covered or edged with something light and fine, so that it looks the way feathers look. This use belongs to poetry and literary writing, and the thing doing the covering is named after with.

adjective · C2

Said of the blades of oars or propellers: turned so that the flat face lies along the direction of movement, with the thin edge leading, instead of pushing against the water or the air.
