    A long pole with a wide flat end, used for a boat. You hold it in your hands and pull it through the water.

    oar 是划船用的長槳：一頭是握把，一頭是扁平的葉片，划的時候整支靠在船邊的支點上，人是背對前進方向的。它跟 paddle 分工很清楚——paddle 是獨木舟那種手拿、不固定在船上的短槳；oar 比較長，而且要架在船上。台灣說划船的那支長槳就是 oar，通常兩支一組。

    這是英式口語的固定說法，畫面是別人正在划船，你突然把自己的槳伸進去——本來順順的，被你一攪就亂了。用了它，聽的人會知道說話者覺得對方多事，語氣是抱怨，但通常不算重，還帶點半開玩笑。美式英文比較少用，日常會說 butt in 或 chime in。動詞可以換成 put／stick／get，後面的 in 不能省。
