核心畫面

Picture coolness sinking slowly into something and staying there. Sunk into a drink, it becomes the pleasant cold you want on a hot day. Sunk into a person all at once, it is the cold that fear puts down your back. Sunk into a person gently, it is shoulders dropping and nobody in a hurry. Every use of chilled describes the finished state: the cool has already gone in.

From the word’s history

Wiktionary records chilled as Middle English chilled, chylled, equivalent to chill + -ed — literally 'having been made cold', which is exactly the finished state the word still names.

Wiktionary 記的來源是中古英語的 chilled、chylled,等於 chill + -ed,字面就是「已經被弄冷」。今天不管哪個意思,重點都還在那個 -ed:已經完成了。
