查核人員
這個拼法底下其實是2個不同的字,意思沒有關係, 只是長得一樣。下面分開列出來。跳到 查核人員 · 西洋跳棋
Someone standing just behind a finished piece of work, comparing it with what it was supposed to be, and marking anything that does not match. That is check plus -er: the one that checks. The picture does not care whether the one doing it is a person or a machine, which is why the same word covers a person going over forms, a person at a supermarket till going over your basket, and a program going over your spelling. Whatever is being checked usually gets named right in front of the word.
From check plus -er, the ending English uses to name the one that does something. The packet notes that this checker and the chessboard checker are, in the end, cognate morpheme for morpheme, but the two arrived in English by different routes and carry different pictures today.
由 check 加上 -er 組成,-er 在英文裡就是用來造出「做那件事的人或東西」。字典另外提到一件有趣的事:這個 checker 跟棋盤那個 checker 追到最後,構詞上其實同源。不過兩個字進入英文的路線不同,今天帶的畫面也不一樣,所以這裡分成兩張圖來看。

代替人查核的程式
-er 造出來的字本來就可以指機器,所以「查的那個」不必是人。工作內容一樣:比對、標出不對的地方。
noun · B1
A computer program that reads through your writing and marks places where a word may be spelled wrongly, or where a sentence may not follow the rules of grammar.
拼字文法檢查程式
A second word, same spelling
A board of light and dark squares, one after the other, all the way across. That flat pattern is the whole of this second checker, and it has nothing to do with checking anything. Look at the squares and you get the pattern word and the single square. Look at what sits on them and you get the round pieces and the game they belong to. Even the verb is just this picture turned into an action: to checker a surface is to give it those alternating light and dark squares.
From Middle English cheker, a shortened form of Anglo-Norman escheker meaning a chessboard, from Latin scaccarium. The chessboard is therefore the oldest thing in this branch, and the pieces, the pattern and the game all take their name from it.
來自中古英語 cheker,是盎格魯-諾曼語 escheker(棋盤)的縮短形,再往上是拉丁文 scaccarium。所以這一支最早的東西就是棋盤:棋子、花紋、遊戲的名字,全都是從棋盤那個字長出來的。
