Picture the feeling you get when something doesn't quite add up: you have no proof, nobody has told you anything, but a hunch has already formed and won't go away. Suspicion is that half-formed belief living in the gap where evidence should be. Point it at a person and it becomes distrust; point it at a situation and it becomes a bad feeling about what's coming.
