- 1毫無戒心的、不知情的（常用於受害者：unsuspecting victim 沒有防備的受害者）
Describing someone who has no idea that something bad is coming — they trust the situation, and that trust is about to be used against them. The key is that the reader or listener knows the danger and the person does not, so the word creates a small feeling of dread or pity. "He walked into the unsuspecting village." "The thief followed an unsuspecting tourist down the alley." It goes before a noun almost every time, and it strongly with words for ordinary, innocent people: unsuspecting victim, unsuspecting public, unsuspecting customers, unsuspecting tourists, unsuspecting passers-by. You meet it constantly in crime reporting, in warnings about scams, and in storytelling. There is also a lighter, joking use, for harmless surprises: "she crept up on her unsuspecting ". Notice how it differs from its neighbours: "unsuspicious" means not causing suspicion, or not feeling suspicion, and is much weaker; "innocent" is about having done nothing wrong; "naive" blames the person for being foolish. "Unsuspecting" does not blame — it simply says the person did not see it coming, and often invites sympathy for them.

組成un- (not) + suspecting. Suspect comes from Latin sub- (under) + specere (to look) — to look at something from underneath, to look at it sideways with doubt.
