把情況壓成數字
核心那一面:那些數字本身、單獨一個數字,以及研究這些數字的那門學問。
statistics, data · noun · B2
A set of numbers that show facts or measurements about something.
統計數字;統計資料
Picture a real situation — accidents on a road, hours people sleep — squeezed down into a number on a page. That number is what the word points at. Squeezing works: you can compare, plan, and argue with numbers. But something is always left behind in the squeeze, which is why English can say a person became 'just a statistic'.
