Entry is the going-in — the moment or means of getting inside. Picture crossing a threshold into a place. From that one act of entering, the word spreads three ways: the right or permission to cross (can you get in?), the physical opening you cross through (the door itself), and — by a small twist — the thing you 'put in' to a list or a contest, as if you entered it into the record.
