The adverb of statistical: according to the numbers, or when you work it out by statistical method. Two everyday jobs. First, it opens a sentence to signal "here comes what the data says": Statistically, flying is safer than driving. Read that carefully — it means across all flights and all drives, not that your particular flight is safe. Second, and much more often, it lives inside the set phrase statistically significant, which is a technical term people all the time. It does NOT mean big, or important. It means the difference the researchers found is unlikely to be just chance — the effect is probably real, even if it is tiny. A new drug can be statistically significant and still barely help anyone. You also meet statistically speaking, a softer, more conversational version of the first use. All of these belong to news, reports and academic writing.
