(動物)齜牙低吼
這個拼法底下其實是2個不同的字,意思沒有關係, 只是長得一樣。下面分開列出來。跳到 (動物)齜牙低吼 · 使(交通)堵死
A dog with its lips pulled back: a low rough sound held in the throat, and the teeth in plain view. It is one warning that you can hear and see at the same moment, and it is aimed at somebody.
This snarl is a frequentative of an earlier verb snar, 'to growl', probably imitative in origin and related to German schnarren, 'to rattle'. The word began as a copy of the sound itself.
這個 snarl 來自更早的動詞 snar(低吼)加上 -le 這個「一再重複」的尾巴,來源多半是在模仿聲音本身,德文的 schnarren(嘎嘎作響)跟它同族。也就是說,這個字一開始就是那個聲音的抄寫。

verb · B2
To say something in an angry, unfriendly way, in a hard low voice — the way an animal sounds when it snarls.

A second word, same spelling
A line that has been pulled once too often: the loops lock, the ends disappear inside, and nothing will come free until someone picks the knot apart. Hair, fishing line, cables, cars on a road, forms in an office — anything long and thin that crosses itself too many times ends up in this shape.
This snarl comes from Middle English snarlen, a frequentative of snaren, 'to trap, to tangle' — that is, snare plus -le. The trap and the knot are the same idea: loops that close on what passes through them.
這個 snarl 來自中古英文 snarlen,是 snaren(設陷阱、纏住)的反覆形,也就是 snare 加上 -le。陷阱和繩結本來就是同一回事:繩圈套住穿過去的東西,然後收緊。
