'Resist' is from Latin 'resistere' = re- 'back, against' + 'sistere' 'to take a stand, stand firm'. The root picture is standing firm against something — exactly the plant-your-feet-and-hold image.
resist 來自拉丁文 resistere，由 re-（回、對著）加上 sistere（站定、站穩）組成，字面就是「對著某個東西站穩」。這正好是核心畫面：頂住外來的推力、不被推動。
