核心畫面

Think of assert as standing a post upright: you put your claim, or your position, out where everyone can see it. Re- means doing that a second time. So the picture behind reassert can be seen as a post that was already standing, then leaned over or got pushed — and now someone walks up and sets it straight again. Every use carries the same two conditions: it was there before, and there was a weak stretch in between. The second time is usually firmer than the first.

From the word’s history

From re- + assert. The prefix supplies the 'again' and the whole meaning of the word depends on it: without a first time, reassert does not fit.

依據來源記載,這個字就是 re- 加上 assert 組成的。前綴 re- 提供了「再一次」,而這個字的意思整個靠它撐著:如果沒有第一次,reassert 就用不上。

Two branches

把一句話再立一次

這一組立的是話。柱子就是你的主張:第一次講過了,中間被質疑或被忽略,於是你再講一次,而且講得更清楚。

verb · C1

To state a fact or an opinion again, often more strongly or more clearly than the first time.

再次主張;重申

本來弱掉的,又站回來

這一組立回來的不是一句話,而是力量或狀態。柱子還是同一根,只是這次歪掉的是你的位置,或是某種本來就在的東西。

verb · C1

To do or say something that makes your power or your position strong again, after a time when it looked weak.

重新確立(權威、控制)
