穿進去、穿過去
這一組最貼近字面:擋在前面的是實實在在的東西——木頭、衣服、屋頂,或是一排防守的球員。共同點是它沒有被擋住。
adjective · C1
Able to get into or through something without much trouble — used about things like cold air, rain, oil, light, or a tool made to go deep into a surface.
穿透的
Picture something meeting a surface and not stopping at it. Cold air finds the gap in your coat; oil sinks into the wood instead of sitting on top. The word is not about being strong — it is about getting in. Once you hold that picture, the other uses are just different surfaces: the polite answer a question goes past, the wall of defenders a pass goes through, the body itself.
From Latin penetrāre 'to penetrate', through Medieval Latin penetrativus and Middle English penetratyve — so the idea of going in has been in the word from the start.
字典把它一路追到拉丁文 penetrāre(進入、穿透),經過中世紀拉丁文 penetrativus 和中古英文 penetratyve 才進到現代英文。也就是說,「進得去」從一開始就是這個字的內容,不是後來才加上的。
Wiktionary entry for penetrative, etymology: "From Middle English penetratyve, penetratif, from Medieval Latin penetrativus, from (the participle stem of) Latin penetrāre ('to penetrate')." (kaikki extract kaikki:3f6f69a190036ae4:1476952049:4773)

穿透的
看穿表面
同樣是穿過去,只是擋在前面的東西換成了「表面的說法」:漂亮的官方回答、看起來合理的解釋。一個 penetrative 的問題不會停在那裡。
adjective · C1
Showing that someone understands things quickly and deeply, and can see what is really going on under the surface — used about questions, remarks, and pieces of writing.
深刻的
進入身體:只活在 penetrative sex 裡
還是同一個「進入」的字面意思,只是對象是身體。要注意它不能拆開:這個意思不能單靠 penetrative 一個字成立。
adjective · C1
Used in the phrase 'penetrative sex' to mean sex in which a penis, or something similar, goes into a vagina or anus.
