One way to hold this word: something has been used until there is nothing left in it, and nobody is going to repair it. A phone that will not switch on. A plan with no way out of it. A person who has walked all day and cannot lift their legs. The word does not say what happened; it says the thing is past saving, and it says it with a shove. That shove is the other half of the word — this is one of the rudest words in English, and it lands hard on anyone who was not expecting it.

Wiktionary gives the form as fuck + -ed, so the adjective is simply the past participle used to describe a state.
