    Very pleasant and attractive: a charming person is friendly and polite in a way that makes people like them, and a charming place or thing is pretty and enjoyable to be in or to look at.

    charming 是「讓人喜歡上」的形容詞：可以說人（friendly 又有禮貌，讓人想親近），也可以說地方或東西（小巧有味道，待在裡面心情會變好）。它跟 beautiful、handsome 不一樣——那兩個講的是外表好不好看，charming 講的是「跟他相處、待在那裡很舒服」，所以一家小咖啡店、一個笑容、一封信都可以是 charming。charming 的畫面可以想成「像被下了一點小魔法，不知不覺就喜歡上了」——charm 本來就有「咒語、魔力」的意思。

You can picture charming as something that quietly wins you over: you meet the person, or turn into the little street, and before you have decided anything you already like it. With people it is warmth plus good manners — they make you feel easy. With a place or a thing it is small, pretty, and pleasant to be in. Either way the pull is gentle, not loud.
