If someone or something is adorable, they pull a warm, fond feeling out of you — the kind that makes you smile, your voice, or want to look after them. The old, strict sense is close to adore: so lovely it fills you with love. Though actually, in everyday talk it has become the slightly gushy word for “so cute I could melt” — a sleeping baby, a puppy, a tiny coat. Friends, especially, throw it at small sweet things and at people they are teasing with affection. It is warmer than cute, and much lighter than worship. Used of a grown person you do not know well, it can sound as if you are talking down to them, like calling an adult a child.

From Middle French adorable and Latin adōrābilis, from adōrāre; adore + -able.
就是 adore 加上 -able，借自法文和拉丁文。
組成From adore + -able (able to be adored). English borrowed the whole word from French, which had it from Latin adorabilis, from adorare (to pray to, to worship) + -bilis.
