One way to hold assured: something has already been promised, so it has stopped moving. A seat, a result, a future — the question about it is closed, and nobody needs to keep checking. From that one picture the rest follow: the person who has been promised the thing, the person who carries that same steadiness in how they speak and move, and, in insurance papers, the person a company has formally promised to pay for.
