    Not serious, important, or valuable. A trivial thing is so small or so ordinary that it is not worth worrying about, arguing about, or spending your time on.

    trivial 是英文裡說「這件事小到不值得放在心上」的字：可能是小到不用吵的事、小到不用煩惱的問題，也可能是小到不心疼的金額。它比 small 多一層評價——不只是「小」，而是「小得不值得花時間」，所以說 a trivial matter 的人通常是在勸自己或別人放下。trivial 的意思可以想成從拉丁文「三條路交會的路口」長出來：人人都會經過的地方，到處都有、再普通不過，久了就帶上「不特別、不重要」的味道。

One way to hold it: a thing so small and so everyday that it does not deserve your attention. Put it on the scale of what matters and the needle barely moves — so worrying about it, arguing about it, or spending an afternoon on it would be effort aimed at nothing.
