Picture a table covered in a mess, and then the same table after someone has been through it: every item in its place, nothing left loose. That finished, everything-in-order state is what sorted names. Once you can see the table, the spoken uses follow easily. A plan can be tidied like that, and so can a person's supplies, and when the last thing drops into place you can say the word on its own.
