把忘掉的話遞過去
同樣是把東西往前遞,只是遞的是話:對方卡住了,你把接下去的字送到他嘴邊。
prompt someone to keep speaking · verb · B2
To help someone who has stopped talking by saying a word that helps them go on.
提示(讓話接下去)
Picture something being brought forward and put right where it is needed — a push that gets a person moving, a word handed to an actor who has gone blank, a line on a screen saying your turn. The adjective is the same idea about time: nothing is held back, it comes at once.
Prompt is from Latin promptus, past participle of promere 'to bring forth' (pro 'forward' + emere 'to take'). The adjective (early 15c.) first meant 'ready, prepared, quick to act'; the verb (mid-14c.) meant 'to incite to action', and by the 1670s 'to assist a speaker with lines'. Both branches sit on the same idea of something brought forward and ready to hand.
prompt 來自拉丁文 promptus,是 promere(拿出來、往前遞)的過去分詞,由 pro(向前)加 emere(取)組成。形容詞(15 世紀初)最早是「準備好的、動作快的」;動詞(14 世紀中)是「推動去做」,到 1670 年代才有「替忘詞的人提詞」的意思。兩條路都建在同一個念頭上:東西被往前遞出來、隨時可取。
