From Old English misraedan, mis- plus read, where mis- marks the action as done wrongly.
Wiktionary 記錄 misread 來自中古英語 misreden，再往上是古英語 misrǣdan，等於 mis- 加 read。mis- 就是「這個動作做錯了」。所以整個字從頭到尾都在講同一件事：讀，可是讀岔了。
